Nintendo finally showed off the long speculated Nintendo Switch 2 in a highly anticipated Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025. What they had to offer surprised a lot of people, with several new game announcements, features and other info specifically relating to the Switch 2 and the future of Nintendo. There’s plenty to get excited about for gamers, both furry and non-furry!
The Nintendo Switch 2 comes with a few new bells and whistles. Enhanced memory capacity and improved graphical capabilities are par for the course. Additionally, it boasts a bigger screen at 7.9 in and will support higher framerates in games. The Joycon 2 will attach to the system magnetically as opposed to sliding in like the original Switch Joycons. These new joycons will also include mouse functionality for certain games. The Switch 2 system will have two USB-C ports and 256 gb of storage.
A brand new feature is Game Chat! Accessed via a C button on the right joycon, players can now interact with their friends while playing Switch games through the system itself, which now includes a built-in microphone. The feature even lets players share their screens and doesn’t require everyone to be playing the same game. A Nintendo Switch 2 camera will be sold separately that can be used with Game Chat and certain games. Game Chat will be free for a time at launch, however a Nintendo Online Membership will be required for it down the line.
Another new feature will be Game Share, which lets a Nintendo Switch 2 system share one game with up to 4 systems in the Nintendo Switch family locally with only one game card needed. It will also be compatible with Game Chat on other Switch 2 systems. Only certain Switch games will be supported and the feature will also support select Switch 2 exclusive titles. The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5th, 2025 for $449.99. A bundle including Mario Kart World will be made available for $499.99.
The Direct opens with a stunning trailer for Mario Kart World. Looking impressive on the Switch 2’s higher resolution, Mario Kart World promises to bring back the popular series with some new features. In addition to 24 racers including favorites like Koopa, Bowser and Yoshi, the game also features several tracks and the ability to drive across an open world in the new Free Roam mode. Mario Kart world is due to be a launch title for Switch 2, releasing on the same day as the platform. A Direct specifically centered on Mario Kart World is slated for April 17, 2025.
