Kitsune Tails Preview - A Foxy Adventure

Having recently come back from playing Super Mario Bros. I was naturally intrigued by Kitsune Tails which got showcased as part of the Wholesome Direct I covered previously. It's adorable, full of Japanese inspired charm and the protagonist is a fox. All things that very much appeal to me. And like the game series it clearly takes gameplay inspiration from, it is brutal.

Players step into the paws of Yuzu, a kitsune who has recently become a courier. Yuzu is a curious and energetic fox who frequently gets into trouble. Which becomes all the more apparent with a cutscene after the first level where Yuzu gets attacked by an oni while foraging for mushrooms in a cave. A couriers life is not an easy one, especially as Yuzu gets tasked with delivering a letter to a ghostly warlord in a haunted house. The amount of stage variety in the demo isn’t bad and they aren’t easy to clear either.

Retro Nintendo! - Super Mario Bros.

It’s-a me! Super Mario!

Originally released in 1985 for NES and Famicom, There is little doubt that Super Mario Bros. has an immense legacy. Mario is one of the oldest and most recognizable names in pop culture. It's one of the earliest titles in what would become one of the biggest and most well-known gaming franchises to ever exist. In fact, it’s considered one of the greatest games of all time and in the context of the time period in which it was released, it definitely is something special that earned that legacy without question.

Isle of Swaps Preview: A Critter Card Collect-a-thon!

Steam Next Fest is here and it has so many highlighted games and demos. Today I’m looking at one that caught my attention: Isle of Swaps.

For those who are unaware, I have a long history with card games. I’ve collected Pokémon cards since I was little. I found a Yu-Gi-Oh structure deck in a shed once(Don’t ask me what it was doing there) and play Magic: The Gathering with friends on occasion. I’ve played several digital card games of varying types. So when a new and especially cool looking card game comes along, I become interested. Now if this game sounds familiar, that's because Isle of Swaps was featured before as one of the games Daxel played for the Deckbuilders Fest back in March. It's back for round 2 as one of the games highlighted for Next Fest.

It's a good time to be a PlayStation fan. Sony has their Days of Play celebration which includes sales, specials, and is currently happening. Their State of Play which premiered on 5/30/24 sadly didn’t have much in the way of Furry related titles(Thank you Daxel for letting me know). That said, there’s still plenty for gaming furs to appreciate.

Sly Cooper the Thievious Racoonis, the first game in the Sly Cooper series, is being added to the PS2 classics catalog for Plus members on June 11.

Additionally, a number of games have gone on sale! Until 6/12, a selection of premium titles can be found for good prices. Including several Jackbox party packs and bundles.

Tears of the Kingdom - A Link To The Future Retrospective

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom released on May 12, 2023, almost a year ago as of the time of this writing. And before it, Breath of the Wild on March 3, 2017. Both games released to major acclaim and both have left their marks on gaming history. Yet, Tears of the Kingdom ultimately didn’t have the same impact as its predecessor.

Moses & Plato - Last Train to Clawville Preview & Demo Playthrough

Moses & Plato - Last Train to Clawville immediately gained my attention from the premise: A murder mystery aboard a train? I love these types of things - Ace Attorney is one of my favorite franchises and this game definitely gave me those vibes.

Moses and his partner Plato are police detectives whose task is to protect the ambassador from the fictional country Stowonia as he embarks on a train ride to some peace negotiations. The game starts with the two outside the train station waiting for the Clawville Express. As they wait, the various other passengers arrive and the player gets the chance to interact with them by clicking on them and striking up conversations. Players can also check out the environment and visit Moses’ mental Mind Garden, where they can review clues, characters and lore. I like the idea of being able to go back over notes at times and double checking what details might be important. An inventory also exists where players can examine items and even use them on other characters or the environment. The demo sadly doesn’t utilize this but I appreciate it being an option and something I could see being very useful down the line.

Unicorn Overlord Review by Brandon Billingsley

Unicorn Overlord is a tactical rpg developed by Vanillaware and released on March 8th, 2024. Those familiar with Vanillaware's work might remember Dragon’s Crown (2013) for PlayStaion 3/Vita and/or 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (2019) for PlayStation 4, both of which also featured sidescrolling and strategy elements. If you haven’t heard of them, don’t worry. Neither did I until doing research for this review.
