Palworld Review

Wow I sure have a lot of hours on survival games, I also really like creature collecting games. Wouldn’t it be awesome if I enslaved a ton of creatures and forced them to work in the mines and fight with you to capture and enslave even more creatures could find a bunch of cool pals to hang out with while playing a survival game? Seriously though, Palworld takes the best from both survival and creature capture games, plus GUNS, you almost never get guns in creature capture games. In Palworld, you can turn your pals into guns!

Palworld Sheep

Just starting out in the huge world of Palworld? Buckle up! The game does a good job starting you out and teaching you the basics while also being challenging at the same time. The first night may be the hardest while you start your journey exploring the huge world, surviving in the harsh climates and avoiding aggressive pals looking to send you back to your base. Equip your best armor and weapons as you progress through the world finding the perfect place to settle down and build that dream base of yours! Along the way tame everything, not only are there currently 163 pals to find, capture, or breed, they are also the fastest way to the top in progression. I’m of course a huge fan of animal creatures and there is no shortage of different types. Want a pink cat that can walk around the base helping you craft different things? Or maybe an Egyptian god Anubis that likes to hang out in the giant desert? Want something a little flashier, what about a literal Jet Dragon? Each different type of pal has a unique ability specific to it and in addition to that, each pal can have up to four passive skills (both positive and negative) that range from boosting their speed to increasing hunger to stamina perks.

Breeding the perfect pal is one goal you can work your way toward on the quest to beat the tower bosses. With selective breeding and a little luck you are able to get exactly which passives you want on your pals AND on the way can discover new pals you've yet to find in the world. There are so many combinations, it’s always fun to pair your favorites and find out what you hatch from them! You can even find random eggs around the world to hatch and tame yourself.

Once you get your awesome ragtag team of pals, you can begin to take on harder areas and the tower bosses! Currently there are six tower bosses and they are nothing to sneeze at. They steadily grow in difficulty as you progress through the different biomes, but it’s not done with just one round. Once you beat all the bosses on normal mode, hard mode unlocks, with exclusive cosmetic loot, and boy is it a jump in difficulty! To beat the hardest bosses you will either need a few friends to help with their teams, or be prepared to grind to do it alone. It isn’t impossible to do it alone, but it is tough. Thankfully while the bosses are fairly difficult, the rest of the game gets easier the further your progress. The stronger and bigger the pals, the better skills they have to help work inside your base to help your survival. You can fully automate farms, crafting benches, and forges. Start production and spend your time exploring instead of manually crafting and working yourself. There are tons of options for bases: set up an automated working base, dedicate time to building a breeding bungalow, or maybe…since the sky’s the limit, build that skyscraper!

Base-building not your thing? Or maybe you finished that perfect base  (let’s be honest, that's not possible!) try collecting all the notes or Liftmunk statues! Or try your hand at conquering all the dungeons! Dungeons are one of the ways to get the rarest and best loot. Every biome has their own unique dungeons, with custom tile sets that match with their area and unique pals only found in dungeons. If you’re in the endgame, try checking out the oil rig or the Sakurajima area! If you’ve done all that, there are world pal bosses all over the map that you can fight and capture with four of those being Legendary pals. Completionist? Try capturing every pal in the ‘lucky’ variation or the ‘Boss’ Variation which both make the pals BIGGER! Who doesn’t want a giant Jormuntide slithering around their base?

So gather up your pal spheres, load your rocket launchers, assign those pals to the workshop you built so tenderly for them to work away in, and conquer the PALWORLD. This ain’t your granny’s monster game. This is for real gamers.
